In this lesson we are going to look at the role of Carbon Dioxide in Climate Change and what effects Climate Change have had on the environment.
Activity 1 - Pair work
Take a look at the graph and see if you can answer the following questions:
- Where did CO2 emissions start and in what year?
- Can you think of a reason for this?
- Look at the chart graph - which country has the highest CO2 emissions per person?
- Which country has the next highest?
- What do you think are the reasons for this?
- Look at the map graph - when did CO2 emissions start in:
- Europe
- USA
- India
- China
- Brazil
- Russia
What do you think this means?

Activity 3 - Pair work
Pick an item of food from your lunch box.
Create a flow diagram to show the carbon footprint of the food over the entire life cycle of the food, from production to consumption to disposal.
Try to include all the inputs and outputs at every stage.

Activity 4 - Group 1
You are going to investigate the effect of Climate Change on agriculture.
Have a look at the following website and then take an expedition to US Midwest.
When you have done that, imagine you are a farmer and write an account in the class blog on how climate change is affecting your life and work.

Activity 4 - Group 2
You are going to investigate the effect of Climate Change on water supplies.
Have a look at the following website and then take an expedition to Southwestern Africa.
When you have done that, imagine you live in a small village in Southwestern Africa. Write an account in the class blog on how climate change has affected life in the village since your parents were children.

Activity 4 - Group 3
You are going to investigate the effect of Climate Change on the weather.
Have a look at the following website and then take an expedition to the Caribbean.
When you have done that, imagine you live on one of the Caribbean Islands and there has just been another hurricane. Write an account in the class blog on what it was like and how climate change has affected the weather in recent years where you live.

Activity 4 - Group 4
You are going to investigate the effect of Climate Change on the ocean acidity.
Have a look at the following website and then take an expedition to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
When you have done that, imagine you are a tropical fish living in the Great Barrier Reef. Write an account in the class blog on how the reef has change in the last few years and describe what it is like to live in it now.
